I made a trip to the Florida Keys – Key West & Islamorada for my birthday. Here’s how it went. The list of places I visited are below.
It was a time for reflection and meditation. I took walks, sat on a swing, rented a bicycle – , and went at my own pace for the entire week. This being my first time to the Keys, I stayed at multiple locations on the island. One location, I stayed closer in town – Old Town, actually and the latter part of my trip; on the other side of the island near the marinas.
If you are creeped out by small bugs and animals, the lizard-like geckos are everywhere, as well as the original island inhabitants – the roosters. They both roam freely but the rooster (and hens) is king here. I loved every part of my stay. I am a seafood junkie and there is an endless supply of conch. I am a full coffee fan now (sorry green tea). The Key West Cuban Coffee Cocina sent me over the top.
Make sure you add the Florida Keys to your list of travel. You’re sure to have a nice time, just make sure you pack your relaxed mode. It would be a shame to come to such a chill place with a list of first word problems and demands. Just go with the flow.
Where I Stayed:
The Gates Hotel, Key West
Where I Ate (highlights):
Sushi Song (sushi galore)
Kermit’s Key West Lime Shoppe (best key lime everything)
Where I Visited:
Ernest Hemingway House
Smathers Beach – beautiful morning sunrises
Higgs Beach
Mallory Square – Sunsets are gorgeous. A must see (be warned, it gets crowded).
The Southernmost Point Marker – Why else would you go all the way to Key West and not see the last stop in the whole U.S.
Sunset Cruise – The are all along the waterways. You can reserve a seat directly at the shoreline or through your hotel excursions.
Lots of lounging in my bungalow and on the terrace of my hotel.
Leave a comment if you’ve been to or are planning to go to Key West. Happy travels
