Celebrate Your Style.

Have you ever picked up a magazine and stared curiously at the designs shown? Either you love or hate it. There are some things that just click for each person and a trend starts. Most of the time, an “influencer” states what’s hot and what’s not and the public tends to flow along with it. Then there are a few who buck the trends and say the hell with it and make up their own style, in their own time. The latter are my people. I love you dearly.

What defines style? Who is your style go to/antithesis?

Ask yourself and define what your style is. I am not here to tell you what it is or what it isn’t. I am a mixture of everything. I love classical pieces that do not seem to go out of style but then I can be more daring. It depends on my mood that day. I have friends who stay in the same lane, day in and day out. Black and white or simply neutral patterns.

Whatver your style is when it comes to fashion, own it. No one is you and that’s your super power. Someone is waiting on you to do that very thing you do, so they can feel comfortable, doing them.

Models Naomi, Pat, Iman, Beverly, Jordan, Alek and designers Tracey Reese, Willi Smith, LaQuan Smith, Carly Cushnie, Stella Jean, and Dapper Dan to name a few. Love their work. Icons. Period.

Here are a few bits that I love and drool over. They will run your pocket a good penny, so act your wage.

Stella Jean – Recognized as Italy’s first black fashion designer. I fell in love with her work with when I saw her skirts in Essence magazine. It was love at first sight. She captures color and print like no other. I love it.

LaQuan Smith – Just burst on the scene, snatching edges and everything. I love his work. I can’t fit a thing he makes, but it’s motivation nonetheless.

Tracy Reese – a long time favorite of mine. Effortless design. It’s the chilling in the Hampton’s, running up the tab at Starbucks – Venti-size my ish, impromptu photo shoots with friends. I have been cheering her on for some time and will continue to do so.

There are lots of other’s, it would be almost impossible to add everyone I love in one post. Not to mention the upcoming designers slaying the scene. The local designers here in the DMV are doing their thing. I’m excited to see what’s next. Tell me your favorite?
