Christmas Decorating Must Have’s

Garland

There is no secret that a great garland piece can make a mantle go from blah to beautiful. Not just any garland will do. The more realistic the better. You can make some plastic garlands but it is hit or miss. Garland’s that look more realistic are the fir or pine style with longer needle-like grass. The shorter stem garlands tend to give off a cheaper look.

Whichever one you choose make sure it is the perfect length across your tabletop or mantle to accentuate the piece appropriately.

Real garland tend to dry out easily when inside for various reasons. The air is drier due to the heat, less sun, etc. If you purchase real garland, mist it every so often to keep it looking fresh for the entire holiday season.

Wreaths

A nice wreath brings out any front door (this goes without saying), however, wreaths are now a big part of the focal point of the interior holiday decor. Wreaths are displayed throughout kitchens, living rooms, and even bedroom spaces. The perfect wreath is dependent on which feel you are going for. If you are pairing it with faux garland, ensure it is the same material and hue. Two different styles will clash and throw off the decor.

Treat real wreaths like you would the real garland. Dispose once the holiday season is done.

Ornaments

If you like your tree free of ornamentation and prefer lights only, scroll past this section. Ornaments can be the chef’s kiss for your holiday decor. You can have the normal size to the gigantic size to display in each room. On the tree or, on tables, in vases, etc. Whether all one color or multicolor, use what you like. Style it whimsically, or neutral. Change it from year to year. It is your preference.

Home Decor

Lights

Light up your space. Inside or out.

Multicolor lights. White lights or blue lights. The best lights a LED, they last a lot longer than the standard. LED lights are much safer and do not burn against real trees which tend to dry out and become a fire hazard when not watered regularly. Set your lights to a timer and watch the magic from your favorite seat in the house.

Candles

The ambience is set with candles. Place candles in plain view, in a safe environment, free from obstruction and the ability to catch fire. Scented or unscented candles, please use safety precautions at all times. Do not leave candles unattended. Keep them out of reach of small children. The best place are the dining room table. Candles are a beautiful addition but can be a hazard if you are not careul.

The Reason for the Season

Lastly, but certainly the main reason we celebrate. This is the season in which we give thanks and celebrate the birth of Jesus. With the commercialization and overly stimulized shopping schedule, the real reason is that we remember the birth which will lay the ground work to the eventual ultimate sacrifice. Spread love and cheer to all you encounter. Be a light of love for yourself and your family. Be polite and give grace to anyone who may find this time of the year difficult.
