September! Wow!
If you’re like me you’re looking around trying to figure out where the year went. The kids are back in school and summer is almost ready to close it’s eyes and slumber until next year. Instead of stocking up on sunscreen and Roblox time, I’m back at Costco grabbing juice boxes and food to prepare bento box style for the kids’ lunch.
Here are a few things I recommend to help you prepare for the new month:
Clean Out Closets
Ease into the new season by slowly removing things you will no longer need. If you did not have a chance to have throw a garage sale to rid yourself of the items that clutter your space, another option would be to donate the goods. The best thing about donating is, you can give away the items as well as get a tax write-off. Not cash in hand necessarily, but saving on your bottom-line is still helpful. This is also a good time to get rid of those things your kids held on to that you couldn’t throw away in their presence. Now that they are back at school or gone off to college, you can finally toss it!
Nothing is worse than waiting until last minute, so the sooner you start the better. Grab a bag and go room by room. For the items you can’t decide to toss or donate immediately, put them in a month to month bag. If by the end of the next month you haven’t touched the bag, let it go.
Change the Drapes
This is a favorite of mine because it gives the impression that I have changed my room and I haven’t. I simply change the drapes from an airy color and fabric that attracted the sun during the warmer months to now hanging a denser fabric, with slightly darker color, or one that aligns with my fall to winter aesthetic. If you’ve been to my blog before, you know my go to favorite fancy on a budget, (still can be a little pricey if you have a lot of windows) drapes are the Sanela curtains from IKEA.
Change out the Pillows
Changing the pillows is a small but good way to change up the rooms and set the mood for a different season. It sets the mood that a new day is occurring. The best way to accomplish this task is to purchase pillow covers versus pillows. By buying the covers only this saves you space (and money).
**Tip** Make sure the pillow inserts are a half-sze to 1 size smaller than the covers. Not too loose and not too tight. Also, ensure the right size pillow is displayed on the furniture. A pillow that is too big will drown out the item and a pillow that is too small will disappear in the setting.
These are a few tips to help you get ready for a new season without being overwhelmed. Small changes can make a big difference. Welcome September
